A Deep Dive into Our Recent Lake Netting and Exciting Fishing Updates at Mill Farm Leisure

Lake netting at Mill Farm Leisure

At Mill Farm Leisure, we continually strive to enhance the carp fishing experience for our guests. Our recent lake netting operation was a testament to this commitment, yielding valuable insights and paving the way for upcoming improvements to ensure a thriving fishing environment. As part of our dedication to offering the best lakeside fishing retreats, we continuously refine our approach to maintaining and enhancing the lake for all anglers.

Navigating Challenges: The Lake Netting Process

Our latest lake netting at Mill Farm Leisure was conducted in February 2025 and presented notable challenges due to dense vegetation and resilient reeds. These natural obstacles allowed many fish to evade capture, reinforcing the fact that our lake is home to an elusive and healthy fish population. Despite these hurdles, the operation was successfully completed, giving us a better understanding of the carp and coarse fish that inhabit our waters.

Carp Fishing Insights: Sizes and Unique Scale Patterns

Unfortunately, no 20lb carp were netted this time, but we know they are still in the lake, waiting to be discovered by our anglers! The largest carp netted weighed approximately 15-16lbs, proving that our fish continue to thrive. We were also thrilled to see stunning rare scale patterns, including Starburst and Zip Linear carp, showcasing the lake's genetic diversity. The overall water quality remains excellent, and all fish netted were in superb health, ensuring a bright future for the carp fishing experience at our lake.

Enhancing Carp Growth: Silver Fish Removal

A significant outcome of the netting was the removal of a large number of silver fish. These smaller fish were competing for food, and their removal will allow our leaner carp to grow larger and healthier. With more space and improved food access, we anticipate noticeable improvements in the size and weight of our carp over the coming months, providing an even better coarse fishing experience for anglers visiting Mill Farm Leisure.

Boosting Tench Populations: New Stock Added

Tench are known for their elusive nature, often burying themselves in the mud, making them difficult to net. Only a handful were observed during the operation, confirming their natural ability to avoid capture. To further boost the tench population, we introduced several beautiful 2-year-old tench to the lake. These additions will enhance the variety of coarse fish species available to anglers and contribute to a balanced ecosystem.

Exciting Changes Coming Soon: Groundbaiting Allowed!

Following extensive research and feedback from our angling community, we will soon be allowing groundbaiting at the lake. However, to protect the water quality and ensure sustainable fish growth, only specially formulated pellet feed will be permitted. These high-quality pellets, carefully selected for our fishery, will be available for purchase onsite in the near future—stay tuned for updates!

Looking Ahead: Our Commitment to Anglers & Fishery Management

The recent lake netting at Mill Farm Leisure and the upcoming groundbaiting changes underscore our commitment to sustainable fishery management. By maintaining excellent water conditions, promoting healthy fish growth, and enhancing the angling experience, we continue to make Mill Farm Leisure a premier carp fishing destination.
